Mozilla Firefox before 19.0, Thunderbird before 17.0.3, and SeaMonkey before 2.16 do not prevent multiple wrapping of WebIDL objects, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was shared 02/19/2013 by Boris Zbarsky (Inferno) with Mozilla Corporation as MFSA 2013-23 as confirmed advisory (Mozilla Blog). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-0765 since 01/02/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74898 (openSUSE Security Update : Mozilla (openSUSE-SU-2013:0323-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166191 (SUSE Security Update for MozillaFirefox 19 (openSUSE-SU-2013:0323-1)).
Upgrading to version 19.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
