Use-after-free vulnerability in the nsDisplayBoxShadowOuter::Paint function in Mozilla Firefox before 19.0, Thunderbird before 17.0.3, and SeaMonkey before 2.16 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (heap memory corruption) via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was shared 02/19/2013 by Abhishek Arya (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security Team as MFSA 2013-28 as confirmed advisory (Mozilla Blog). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0777 since 01/02/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a private exploit are known.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70183 (GLSA-201309-23 : Mozilla Products: Multiple vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166191 (SUSE Security Update for MozillaFirefox 19 (openSUSE-SU-2013:0323-1)).
