A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Alt-N MDaemon up to 13.0.3 (Mail Server Software). This affects an unknown functionality in the library WorldClient.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. This is going to have an impact on integrity.

The bug was discovered 07/25/2012. The weakness was published 02/20/2013 by Demetris Papapetrou with Qsecure as confirmed exploit (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The public release has been coordinated with Alt-N. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a public exploit are known.

A public exploit has been developed by QSecure / Demetris Papapetrou and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 174 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.

Upgrading to version 13.0.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
