The mod_dav_svn server in Subversion 1.5.0 through 1.7.19 and 1.8.0 through 1.8.11 allows remote authenticated users to spoof the svn:author property via a crafted v1 HTTP protocol request sequences.
The weakness was released 09/16/2015 by Ivan Zhakov with VisualSVN as HT205217 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-0251 since 11/18/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 85978 (RHEL 7 : subversion (RHSA-2015:1742)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350115 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for subversion,mod_dav_svn: ALAS-2015-587).
Upgrading to version 7.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
