The editor in IPython Notebook before 3.2.2 and Jupyter Notebook 4.0.x before 4.0.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript code via a crafted file, which triggers a redirect to files/, related to MIME types.

The weakness was presented 09/29/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-7337 since 09/24/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86174 (Fedora 23 : ipython-3.2.1-3.fc23 (2015-16128)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 124104 (Fedora Security Update for ipython (FEDORA-2015-16128)).
