Microsoft Edge mishandles HTML attributes in HTTP responses, which allows remote attackers to bypass a cross-site scripting (XSS) protection mechanism via unspecified vectors, aka "Microsoft Edge XSS Filter Bypass."
The weakness was shared 10/13/2015 with Microsoft as MS15-107 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-6058 since 08/14/2015. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86372 (MS15-107: Cumulative Security Update for Microsoft Edge (3096448)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91102 (Microsoft Edge Cumulative Security Update (MS15-107)).
Applying the patch MS15-107 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 21293.
