Google Chrome before 25.0.1364.152 does not properly manage the interaction between the browser process and renderer processes during authorization of the loading of a plug-in, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via vectors involving a blocked plug-in.
The weakness was disclosed 03/04/2013 by Chris Evans with Google Chrome Security Team as 172573 as confirmed changelog entry (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at code.google.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Google. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-0910 since 01/07/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 65067 (FreeBSD : chromium -- multiple vulnerabilities (40d5ab37-85f2-11e2-b528-00262d5ed8ee)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120988 (Google Chrome Prior to 25.0.1364.152 Multiple Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 25.0.1364.152 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at codereview.chromium.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
