The OCSP client in Apple iOS before 9.1 does not check for certificate expiry, which allows remote attackers to spoof a valid certificate by leveraging access to a revoked certificate.

The weakness was released 10/21/2015 by William Redwood (PanguTeam) with Apple as HT205370 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-6999 since 09/16/2015. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1211 for this issue. The advisory points out:

A validation issue existed in the OCSP client. This issue was addressed by checking the OCSP certificate's expiration time.
