Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in gdk-pixbuf up to 2.31.x. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file io-tga.c of the component Truevision TGA File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
io-tga.c in gdk-pixbuf before 2.32.0 uses heap memory after its allocation failed, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer overflow and application crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted Truevision TGA (TARGA) file.
The weakness was released 10/26/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at ubuntu.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-7673 since 10/02/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
