The xz_decomp function in xzlib.c in libxml2 2.9.1 does not properly detect compression errors, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (process hang) via crafted XML data.

The weakness was disclosed 11/02/2015 as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-8035 since 11/02/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
