The xz_decomp function in xzlib.c in libxml2 2.9.1 does not properly detect compression errors, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (process hang) via crafted XML data.
The weakness was disclosed 11/02/2015 as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-8035 since 11/02/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
