The Apple mod_hfs_apple module for the Apache HTTP Server in Apple Mac OS X before 10.8.3 does not properly handle ignorable Unicode characters, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended directory authentication requirements via a crafted pathname in a URI.

The weakness was published 03/14/2013 by Clint Ruoho with Laconic Security as HT5672 as confirmed advisory (Apple Security Announce). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-0966 since 01/10/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
