Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 and SharePoint Foundation 2013 SP1 allow remote authenticated users to bypass intended Access Control Policy restrictions and conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks by modifying a webpart, aka "Microsoft SharePoint Security Feature Bypass," a different vulnerability than CVE-2015-6117.
The weakness was disclosed 01/12/2016 with Microsoft as MS16-004 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-0011 since 12/04/2015. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. A authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 87882 (MS16-004: Security Update for Microsoft Office to Address Remote Code Execution (3124585)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110263 (Microsoft Office Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS16-004)).
Applying the patch MS16-004 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
