A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Windows Vista SP2 up to Server 2012 R2 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component DLL Loader. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Microsoft Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, Windows RT Gold and 8.1, and Windows 10 Gold and 1511 mishandle DLL loading, which allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted application, aka "DLL Loading Remote Code Execution Vulnerability."
The weakness was released 01/12/2016 as MS16-007 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-0016. An attack has to be approached locally. The successful exploitation needs a single authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 87890 (MS16-007: Security Update for Microsoft Windows to Address Remote Code Execution (3124901)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
