FFmpeg 2.x allows remote attackers to conduct cross-origin attacks and read arbitrary files by using the concat protocol in an HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) M3U8 file, leading to an external HTTP request in which the URL string contains the first line of a local file.

The weakness was presented 01/15/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-1897 since 01/14/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
