CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Ruby on Rails up to 3.2.12 (Programming Language Software). This affects some unknown functionality of the file lib/action_controller/vendor/html-scanner/html/sanitizer.rb of the component sanitize_css Method. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

The sanitize_css method in lib/action_controller/vendor/html-scanner/html/sanitizer.rb in the Action Pack component in Ruby on Rails before 2.3.18, 3.0.x and 3.1.x before 3.1.12, and 3.2.x before 3.2.13 does not properly handle \n (newline) characters, which makes it easier for remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via crafted Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) token sequences.

The weakness was released 03/18/2013 by Charlie Somerville as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The public release was coordinated with the project team. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-1855 since 02/19/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74972 (openSUSE Security Update : rubygem-actionpack-3_2 (openSUSE-SU-2013:0661-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166714 (OpenSuSE Security Update for rubygem-actionpack-2_3 (openSUSE-SU-2014:0019-1)).

Upgrading to version 3.2.13 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (74972), SecurityFocus (BID 58552†), OSVDB (91452†), Secunia (SA52656†) and SecurityTracker (ID 1028321†).
