A vulnerability was found in Apple Mac OS X up to 10.11.2 (Operating System) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the component syslog. The weakness was shared 01/19/2016 by Joshua J. Drake and Nikias Bassen with Zimperium zLabs as HT205731 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-1722 since 01/13/2016. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The advisory points out:

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 124584 (Apple Mac OS X v10.11.3 and Security Update 2016-001 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2016-01-19-2)).
Upgrading to version 10.11.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
