A vulnerability was found in Jasper 1.900.1 (Programming Tool Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function jpc_pi_nextcprl of the component JPEG 2000 Image Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The jpc_pi_nextcprl function in JasPer 1.900.1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and application crash) via a crafted JPEG 2000 image.

The weakness was disclosed 01/20/2016 with Qihoo 360 (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-1867 since 01/12/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
