A vulnerability was found in Xmlsoft libxml2 (Document Processing Software) (the affected version is unknown). It has been classified as critical. This affects the function htmlParseNameComplex of the component XML File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The htmlParseNameComplex function in HTMLparser.c in libxml2 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a crafted XML document.
The weakness was presented 01/27/2016 with Qihoo 360 as Bug 1301928 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-2073 since 01/26/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
