A vulnerability was found in libxml2 (Document Processing Software) (version now known) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file dict.c of the component HTML Document Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is availability. dict.c in libxml2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read and application crash) via an unexpected character immediately after the "<!DOCTYPE html" substring in a crafted HTML document.
The weakness was shared 04/13/2016 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-8806. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
