Moodle through 2.6.11, 2.7.x before 2.7.11, 2.8.x before 2.8.9, and 2.9.x before 2.9.3 does not properly restrict the availability of Flowplayer, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via a crafted .swf file.

The weakness was disclosed 02/22/2016 by Andrew (Website). The advisory is shared at moodle.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-5337 since 07/01/2015. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
