The Smart Install client functionality in Cisco IOS 12.2 and 15.0 through 15.3 on Catalyst switches allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (device reload) via crafted image list parameters in Smart Install packets, aka Bug ID CSCub55790.

The weakness was disclosed 03/27/2013 as File 120986/Cis as confirmed advisory (Packetstorm). It is possible to read the advisory at packetstormsecurity.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Cisco. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-1146 since 01/11/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.
