Details
A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird up to 19.0.2 on Linux (Web Browser). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component WebGL renderer within Mesa. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The WebGL subsystem in Mozilla Firefox before 20.0, Firefox ESR 17.x before 17.0.5, Thunderbird before 17.0.5, Thunderbird ESR 17.x before 17.0.5, and SeaMonkey before 2.17 on Linux does not properly interact with Mesa drivers, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (free of unallocated memory) via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was shared 04/02/2013 by Shuichiro Suzuki (miaubiz) with Oracle as MFSA2013-35 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-0796 since 01/02/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
