A vulnerability was found in Google Android up to 4.x/5.x (Smartphone Operating System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component Mediaserver. Stack-based buffer overflow in decoder/impeg2d_vld.c in mediaserver in Android 6.x before 2016-04-01 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted media file, aka internal bug 25812590.

The weakness was disclosed 04/04/2016 as ANDROID-25812590 as confirmed security bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared for download at source.android.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-0836 since 12/16/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
