A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0/5.0.1 SP3/5.5 SP2/6.0/6.0 SP1 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component MHTML URL Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. The weakness was presented 11/25/2003 by Liu Die Yu (Dieyu) (Website). The advisory is shared at k-otik.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-0380. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.
