Adobe Flash Player before 18.0.0.343 and 19.x through 21.x before 21.0.0.213 on Windows and OS X and before 11.2.202.616 on Linux allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by overriding NetConnection object properties to leverage an unspecified "type confusion," a different vulnerability than CVE-2016-1019.
The weakness was disclosed 04/09/2016 by Yuki Chen with Qihoo 360 Vulcan Team (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-1015 since 12/22/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 90426 (Adobe Flash Player for Mac <= 21.0.0.197 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB16-10)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168848 (OpenSuSE Security Update for flash-player (openSUSE-SU-2016:1306-1)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 24024.
