A vulnerability was found in uudeview (affected version unknown) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component Parameter Parser. Buffer overflow in the UUDeview package, as used in WinZip 6.2 through WinZip 8.1 SR-1, and possibly other packages, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a MIME archive with certain long MIME parameters.
The bug was discovered 01/13/2004. The weakness was published 02/27/2004 by iDefense with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at idefense.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2004-0333. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 45 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 14456 (GLSA-200403-05 : UUDeview MIME Buffer Overflow), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
