A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Xymon up to 4.1.x/4.2.x/4.3.24. Affected is an unknown code block of the file xymond/xymond.c of the component xymond. Multiple buffer overflows in xymond/xymond.c in xymond in Xymon 4.1.x, 4.2.x, and 4.3.x before 4.3.25 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via a long filename, involving handling a "config" command.
The weakness was disclosed 04/13/2016 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.xymon.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-2054 since 01/24/2016. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 175653 (Debian Security Update for xymon (DSA 3495-1)).
Upgrading to version 4.3.25 eliminates this vulnerability.
