tmpfiles.d/systemd.conf in systemd before 214 uses weak permissions for journal files under (1) /run/log/journal/%m and (2) /var/log/journal/%m, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information by reading these files.
The weakness was presented 04/20/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-9770 since 04/08/2016. Local access is required to approach this attack. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
