A vulnerability was found in Squid Proxy up to 3.5.16/4.0.8 (Firewall Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component ESI Response Handler. Squid 3.x before 3.5.17 and 4.x before 4.0.9 allow remote attackers to obtain sensitive stack layout information via crafted Edge Side Includes (ESI) responses, related to incorrect use of assert and compiler optimization.
The weakness was shared 04/20/2016 with CESG as SQUID-2016:6 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at squid-cache.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-4053 since 04/20/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
