A vulnerability has been found in Squid Proxy up to 3.5.16/4.0.8 (Firewall Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component ESI Response Handler. Buffer overflow in Squid 3.x before 3.5.17 and 4.x before 4.0.9 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted Edge Side Includes (ESI) responses.
The weakness was presented 04/20/2016 with CESG as SQUID-2016:6 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at squid-cache.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-4054 since 04/20/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
