A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Wireshark up to 1.12.10/2.0.2 (Packet Analyzer Software). Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the file epan/dissectors/packet-pktc.c of the component PKTC Dissector. epan/dissectors/packet-pktc.c in the PKTC dissector in Wireshark 1.12.x before 1.12.11 and 2.0.x before 2.0.3 does not verify BER identifiers, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write and application crash) via a crafted packet.
The weakness was disclosed 04/25/2016 (Website). The advisory is shared at code.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-4079 since 04/24/2016. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
