The Mozilla Maintenance Service updater in Mozilla Firefox before 46.0 on Windows allows user-assisted remote attackers to delete arbitrary files by leveraging certain local file execution.
The weakness was disclosed 04/26/2016 as MFSA 2016-40 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-2809 since 03/01/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
