A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in GNU Samba up to 3.0.6 (File Transfer Software). Affected by this issue is the function process_logon_packet of the component nmbd. The manipulation as part of a SAM_UAS_CHANGE Request leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability.
The bug was discovered 09/13/2004. The weakness was published 09/13/2004 with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at idefense.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2004-0808 since 08/25/2004. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
