A vulnerability was found in Oracle HTTP Server 11.1.1.6.0 (Web Server). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component Web Listener. not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:
ModSecurity before 2.6.6, when used with PHP, does not properly handle single quotes not at the beginning of a request parameter value in the Content-Disposition field of a request with a multipart/form-data Content-Type header, which allows remote attackers to bypass filtering rules and perform other attacks such as cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks. NOTE: this vulnerability exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2009-5031.
The weakness was shared 04/16/2013 by malware with Qualys as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - April 2013 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is available at oracle.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-2751 since 05/14/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is possible to download the exploit at packetstormsecurity.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80704 (Oracle Solaris Third-Party Patch Update : modsecurity (cve_2012_2751_improper_input)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Solaris Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166401 (OpenSuSE Security Update for apache2-mod_security2 (openSUSE-SU-2013:1342-1)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
