A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft WordPerfect (Word Processing Software) (version now known) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing. Buffer overflow in the converter for Microsoft WordPerfect 5.x on Office 2000, Office XP, Office 2003, and Works Suites 2001 through 2004 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a malicious document or website.
The bug was discovered 09/14/2004. The weakness was disclosed 09/14/2004 by Peter Winter-Smith with Next Generation Security Software as MS04-027 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-0573 since 06/15/2004. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

Applying the patch MS04-027 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
