Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator up to 4.6.5 (Endpoint Management Software). Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the file /EPOAGENTMETA/DisplayMSAPropsDetail.do of the component Agent Handler. The manipulation of the argument uid with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

SQL injection vulnerability in the Agent-Handler component in McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) before 4.5.7 and 4.6.x before 4.6.6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via a crafted request over the Agent-Server communication channel.

The bug was discovered 06/08/2013. The weakness was released 04/26/2013 by Thierry Zoller and Jerome Nokin with Verizon Enterprise Solutions (GCIS Vulnerability Management) as SB10042 as confirmed bulletin (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at kc.mcafee.com. The public release was coordinated with McAfee. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-0140 since 12/06/2012. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed by st3n and been published 3 months after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66319 (McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 4.6.x Multiple Vulnerabilities (SB10042)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121260 (McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Multiple Remote Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading to version 5.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (83820), Exploit-DB (33071), Tenable (66319), SecurityFocus (BID 59500†) and OSVDB (92800†). Additional details are provided at h-online.com. Entry connected to this vulnerability is available at VDB-8552.
