A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome 21.0.1180.89 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function Transfer Function Image Upsampling of the component PDF Viewer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The PDF functionality in Google Chrome before 22.0.1229.79 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via vectors that trigger out-of-bounds write operations.
The weakness was published 09/25/2012 by Matthew Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind (Slawomir Blazek) with Google Security Team as 146460 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at code.google.com. The public release has been coordinated with Google. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-2895 since 05/19/2012. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
