A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in GNU C Library up to 2.23 (Software Library). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Name Handler. Stack-based buffer overflow in the glob implementation in GNU C Library (aka glibc) before 2.24, when GLOB_ALTDIRFUNC is used, allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a long name.

The weakness was presented 06/01/2016 by Alexander Cherepanov (Website). The advisory is available at sourceware.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-1234 since 12/27/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
