Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in QEMU up to 2.5.0 (Virtualization Software). This affects the function ne2000_receive of the file hw/net/ne2000.c of the component NE2000 NIC Emulation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The ne2000_receive function in the NE2000 NIC emulation support (hw/net/ne2000.c) in QEMU before 2.5.1 allows local guest OS administrators to cause a denial of service (infinite loop and QEMU process crash) via crafted values for the PSTART and PSTOP registers, involving ring buffer control.
The weakness was published 06/16/2016 with Huawei (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.gnu.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-2841 since 03/02/2016.
