A vulnerability was found in phpMyAdmin up to 4.0.10.15/4.4.15.6/4.6.2 (Database Administration Software). It has been declared as critical. js/get_scripts.js.php in phpMyAdmin 4.0.x before 4.0.10.16, 4.4.x before 4.4.15.7, and 4.6.x before 4.6.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a large array in the scripts parameter.
The weakness was disclosed 07/03/2016 by Deniz Cevik with Biznet Bilisim (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at phpmyadmin.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-5706 since 06/16/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
By approaching the search of inurl:js/get_scripts.js.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 91888 (openSUSE Security Update : phpMyAdmin (openSUSE-2016-804)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 175793 (Debian Security Update for phpmyadmin (DSA 3627-1)).
Upgrading to version 4.0.10.16, 4.4.15.7 or 4.6.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
