A vulnerability has been found in Apple QuickTime 7.7.3 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component JPEG Handler. Buffer overflow in Apple QuickTime before 7.7.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via crafted JPEG data in a movie file.
The weakness was published 05/22/2013 by Mil3s with Zero Day Initiative as HT5770 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-1021 since 01/10/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
