Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Pivotal Spring Framework up to 3.2.13/4.1.6. This affects an unknown functionality of the component Inline DTD Declaration Handler. The manipulation as part of a XML File leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
Pivotal Spring Framework before 3.2.14 and 4.x before 4.1.7 do not properly process inline DTD declarations when DTD is not entirely disabled, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption and out-of-memory errors) via a crafted XML file.
The weakness was published 07/12/2016 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at jira.spring.io. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-3192 since 04/10/2015. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
