The weakness was disclosed 07/18/2016 by Shrek_wzw with CESG as HT206903 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-1865 since 01/13/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The advisory points out:

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 92496 (Mac OS X 10.11.x < 10.11.6 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks and running in the context c. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370095 (Apple Mac OS X v10.11.6 and Security Update 2016-004 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2016-07-18-1)).
Upgrading to version 10.11.6 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
