A vulnerability was found in Apple tvOS up to 9.2.1 (Digital Media Player). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Kernel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The weakness was shared 07/18/2016 by Marco Grassi (Shrek_wzw) with Qihoo 360 as HT206905 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-4582 since 05/11/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The advisory points out:

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370095 (Apple Mac OS X v10.11.6 and Security Update 2016-004 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2016-07-18-1)).
Upgrading to version 9.2.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
