A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in NetIQ Sentinel up to 7.4.1. Affected is some unknown processing of the component ReportViewServlet. The manipulation of the argument fileType with the input value PREVIEW leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the ReportViewServlet servlet in the server in NetIQ Sentinel 7.4.x before 7.4.2 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a PREVIEW value for the fileType field.
The weakness was published 07/01/2016 as Sentinel 7.4.2 has been released as confirmed news (Website). The advisory is available at netiq.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-1605 since 01/12/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Required for exploitation is a authentication.
