A vulnerability has been found in Crestron AirMedia AM-100 up to 1.4.0.12 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the file cgi-bin/login.cgi. The manipulation of the argument src with the input value .. leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in cgi-bin/login.cgi on Crestron AirMedia AM-100 devices with firmware before 1.4.0.13 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the src parameter.
The weakness was shared 08/03/2016 with Cylance (Website). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-5639 since 06/16/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy.
