This affects some unknown processing of the file epan/crypt/airpdcap.c of the component IEEE 802.11 Dissector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. epan/crypt/airpdcap.c in the IEEE 802.11 dissector in Wireshark 2.x before 2.0.4 mishandles certain length values, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted packet.
The weakness was released 08/07/2016 by Mateusz Jurczyk (iDefense) with iDEFENSE Labs (Website). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-5352 since 06/09/2016. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
