A vulnerability was found in ReadyDesk 9.1. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown processing in the library ReadyDesk.dll of the file SQL_Config.aspx of the component SQL Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a xml external entity reference vulnerability (Credentials). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-611. The product processes an XML document that can contain XML entities with URIs that resolve to documents outside of the intended sphere of control, causing the product to embed incorrect documents into its output. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
ReadyDesk 9.1 allows local users to determine cleartext SQL Server credentials by reading the SQL_Config.aspx file and decrypting data with a hardcoded key in the ReadyDesk.dll file.
The weakness was released 08/26/2016 by Andrew Tierney with Pen Test Partners (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-5683 since 06/16/2016. Attacking locally is a requirement. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
