Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in PHP up to 5.6.25/7.0.10 (Programming Language Software). This affects the function imap_mail. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability.
The weakness was presented 09/15/2016 as Version 7.0.11 as confirmed changelog (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at php.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-7411. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
