A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in PHP up to 5.6.27/7.0.12 (Programming Language Software). This issue affects the function imageline of the component GD Extension. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer coercion vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-192. Integer coercion refers to a set of flaws pertaining to the type casting, extension, or truncation of primitive data types. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was presented 11/10/2016 as confirmed changelog (Website). The advisory is shared at php.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-9933. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 175905 (Debian Security Update for php5 (DSA 3732-1)).
